Lochlan Eats

Gluten-free food a kid will actually eat — reviewed for taste by Lochlan and safety by his parents.

Our Story

Why a nine-year-old's taste buds run a restaurant review site.

The part where we found out

Between 18 months and two years old, Lochlan was lethargic — the kid who just wanted to be held while other toddlers tore around the playground. At his two-year checkup we learned he had lost more than 20% of his body weight. That set off a battery of tests, and ultimately bloodwork and an endoscopy confirmed it: celiac disease.

The part where everything changed

The diagnosis threw our world upside down. It meant a mountain of research and completely rebuilding how our family ate — every meal, every snack, every birthday party. It took time for his strength and muscle mass to come back. Today he's a strong, healthy nine-year-old who happens to be this site's head taste critic.

The part where we got tired of salads

We've now been through seven years of trial and error finding packaged foods and restaurants that not only are handled carefully, but taste good enough to give him a normal kid food life. And here's what we noticed: there's more gluten-free information out there than ever, and an ever-growing list of restaurants and brands with GF options — but almost none of it is dedicated to what kids actually want to eat.

Maybe your child has a more refined palate than ours. But we kept finding reviews like "they have a great salad," or "any of the grilled fish dishes can be made gluten-free," or our all-time favorite: "I had the burger with no bun and substituted veggies for the fries."

No nine-year-old on earth wants that burger.

So we built this

Lochlan Eats is the site we wished existed seven years ago: chicken tenders, pizza, burgers with actual buns, fries from a dedicated fryer. Every review comes from a real visit or a real grocery run. Lochlan rates the taste in his own words; we note what we observed about the kitchen — dedicated fryers and prep space, how the staff handled our questions, and when we last verified it all.

What this site is — and isn't

These reviews are one family's honest experience, not safety certifications. Kitchens change fryers, suppliers, and procedures all the time, so please always confirm with staff before ordering — and if you spot something that's changed, use the "Noticed a change?" button on any page. Those reports come straight to us, and we update or re-visit as fast as we can.
